Winter Weekend Itinerary
Snow and adrenaline mix for a bold Sierra winter playground
For travelers chasing the rush and the view, winter in Yosemite delivers. Breathe crisp air while exploring canyons and gazing upon horizons. This adventure-filled itinerary pairs high‑energy exploration with the comfort of Tenaya’s fireside evenings, so you can go big by day and reset by night.
Day 1: Views of granite & ice
Start strong with a high-elevation push—quiet forests, exposed ridgelines, and a viewpoint that puts Yosemite Valley at your feet.
-
Morning: Winter ascent & point perspectives
Trade hiking boots for snowshoes and set out for one of Yosemite’s most rewarding winter routes: Dewey Point. Starting from Badger Pass, this 7-mile roundtrip trek winds through quiet forest before opening to a dramatic overlook nearly 3,000 feet above Yosemite Valley.
Snowshoe rentals are included in your stay at Tenaya, so you can head out fully equipped—just come prepared for backcountry snow travel and with poles for added stability. For seasoned adventurers, the final stretch delivers just enough exposure to feel earned.
-
Evening: Ascent Spa exhale
Back at Tenaya, shift into recovery mode. Decompress with sauna time, enjoy a deep-tissue session at Ascent Spa, and squash your hunger with dinner at Jackalope’s. Then — if you have any energy left — look up to catch a few winter constellations before bed.
Day 2: Turns in Yosemite’s High Country
A day on the slopes, Yosemite-style—laid-back terrain, big views, and time to unwind after.
-
Morning: First Tracks at Badger Pass
After breakfast at Tenaya, take the scenic 45–60 minute drive into Yosemite to Badger Pass Ski Area, the park’s historic alpine destination. With a mix of beginner and intermediate runs, it’s easy to find your rhythm. The pace is relaxed, lift lines are minimal, and the surrounding Sierra views make every run feel expansive.
-
Evening: Relax & recover
By late afternoon, make your way back out of the park and return to Tenaya, where a different kind of elevation awaits. Unwind at Ascent Spa, settle in for a fireside drink, or enjoy a well-earned dinner at Jackalope’s. It’s the balance that defines the day—time spent carving through the mountains, followed by a warm, comfortable return.
Day 3: Valley Views, Winter Light
Slow the pace, widen the lens, and experience Yosemite’s most storied landscapes in their quietest season.
-
Morning: Reflections & Riverside Wanders
Greet the day meandering through Yosemite Valley and scratch Sentinel Bridge (Half Dome views) and Curry Village corridor off your list. Grab a coffee from Curry Village and take slow sips by Stoneman Meadow. Hop on the free shuttle to the Mirror Lake trailhead for a short walk to the basin. Keep your camera handy for the picturesque icy reflections this time of year.
-
Evening: Bright night moves
Back at Tenaya, celebrate your triumphs with fireside toasts, a piping hot meal and a slow, satisfied exhale. You did winter right. Go ice-skating on our on-site rink, then step back out for a guided flashlight hike or a crisp, short stargazing walk near the property. Few things beat a winter sky after a day of full‑tilt exploration.
Know Before You Go
Winter rewards preparation. Plan smart, pack intentionally, and let the elements elevate—not derail—your experience.
-
- Conditions: Winter routes change with weather. Check daily conditions and closures at the park entrance.
- Gear up: Waterproof layers, insulating mid‑layers, traction (microspikes), gloves and headlamp are recommended, with snowshoes available seasonally.
- Pace yourself: High‑energy days feel bigger in the cold — but build in warmups, snacks and hydration to stay in control.
- Respect the elements: Ice and snow amplify exposure, so choose routes that match your experience and Mother Nature’s conditions.
