As the name suggests, Mirror Lake’s calm waters create breathtaking reflections of the surrounding granite peaks, including Half Dome, which looks especially stunning framed by autumn leaves.

  • Trail Difficulty: Elevation gain is minimal, making it perfect for a leaf-peeping stroll. You can also shorten the hike by visiting the lake on the paved path and returning the same way for a 2-mile round trip.
  • Trailhead Information: Start at the Mirror Lake shuttle stop (Stop 17) and follow the clearly marked trail.

Valley Loop

  • Trail Difficulty: Elevation gain is minimal, making it perfect for a leaf-peeping stroll. To shorten the hike, you can opt for the East or West Valley Loop, which are about 5-7 miles each.
  • Trailhead Information: Start near the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center and follow signs for the Valley Loop.

The Glen Aulin Trail offers a captivating experience during Yosemite’s autumn. This moderately challenging trail spans approximately 11 miles round-trip, guiding hikers through a diverse landscape of meadows, forests, and granite formations. Following the Tuolumne River, you’ll experience picturesque waterfalls, including Tuolumne Falls and the White Cascade, and expansive views of the surrounding high country.

  • Trail Difficulty: With an elevation gain of approximately 800 feet, the trail is considered moderately strenuous, suitable for hikers with some experience.
  • Trailhead Information: The trailhead is located near the Tuolumne Meadows Visitor Center. From there, hikers should follow the Pacific Crest Trail northward to reach the Glen Aulin junction.
